My First Blog Real Project Management
Welcome and thank you for taking the time to read my very first blog! I have decided to write a blog about my favourite subject project management, but don’t expect this to be about boring theories which don’t work. This blog is about doing project management in organisations that do not understand project management. Time and time again I read about all these great theories on how to do project management but they just do not work when you have executives who don’t understand it and resources (project management speak for people who do the work on a project) who just want to get on and do the job, take their money and go home.
I therefore plan to cut through with practical tips on how I have done it in a number of organisations and what I learnt along the way. However I am not saying what I write is the best way just how I have managed to do it. Please write comments that disagree with me and suggest your own solutions.
To give you a bit of background information I have been a project manager for over 10 years working predominantly in Retail within the UK. I have a degree in project management and I am a Prince2 Practioner. In the organisations I have worked for when I arrived they had no project management in place. I set about implementing a project process and project management toolsets such as Microsoft’s Enterprise Project Management 2007.
My final thought for the day before next weeks first tip.
